Cool Earth is the non-profit organisation that works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and climate change.
The reality of climate change is no longer up for debate. It is real. And it is happening now.
Our changing climate is the most pressing challenge facing our world today. Deforestation is responsible for a quarter of the world's carbon - that’s more than the entire CO2 emissions the world’s transport contributes. Cool Earth is the only charity that works solely where the threat to the forest is greatest - on the frontline of deforestation. Their innovative approach puts people, not trees, first.
For over a decade Cool Earth has been putting local people - the best possible custodians - back in control of their forest across the three rainforest biomes - the Congo Basin, Amazonia and Oceania. Research continuously proves this approach is the most effective way to keep rainforest standing. Each of their partnerships with the communities forms a shield making neighbouring forest inaccessible to loggers – saving millions of acres of further forest.
Why am I supporting Cool Earth?
Because I am passionate about the health of our planet. I believe we have a responsibility to protect this planet and those who don’t have a voice - the increasingly vulnerable wildlife we share it with.
Despite only covering 6% of the world’s land surface, rainforests contain 2/3 of all biodiversity of which 99 percent is yet to be studied. Rainforest is the natural habitat of the birds featured in the Tropical Menagerie and I am passionate about supporting their cause, so 5% of the proceeds of the series will be donated to Cool Earth.
With your help, I estimate donating around £500 - that's 2,000 x 25ps! - to Cool Earth to help them continue the work they do. And there are plenty more toucans and parrots still in the ink-wells, waiting in the wings to be printed!
