With the big black teardrop on the tip of their bills, the Toco Toucan is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable. One of the largest species, the Toco are the only toucan not to inhabit forest and instead dwell at the forest edge and in low wet grassland. Traveling in small groups they forage on figs and other fruit gliding from site to site in southern Guyana to Argentina, and from central west Brazil to southeastern Peru.
It is the toucans' bill I have found completely irresistible to replicate in my prints; the pleasing shape and complimentary colours offset by the fabulous deep inky black. It's hard to believe that nature has created such a vibrant and distinguished creature.
